A small portion of the sky, with an area equal to just one tenth of that of the full Moon, offers us a spectacle that very few things in the world can match.
This image, which went down in history with the name of Hubble Ultra Deep Field, was created starting from the data obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope during 2003 and 2004 and it is the deepest image ever obtained of the Universe in the wavelengths of the visible light.
The work to obtain it began some time before 2003: for example, it was necessary to choose the best area of the sky to point the telescope. This portion was chosen in the direction of the constellation Furnax since in its vicinity there are no very bright stars that otherwise would have disturbed the image.
More than 10,000 galaxies are believed to be portrayed inside the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. Among these, the smallest and the reddest are located 13 billion light years from Earth and are among the first galaxies to have formed in the Universe, just 800 million years after the Big Bang.
