EXPLORING THE BLUE AURA THAT GRACED ITALY’S NIGHT SKY

A captivating celestial spectacle unfolded last night, November 18, around 7:30 p.m., as a faint blue aura was spotted across Northern Italy’s skies, intriguing not only local observers but also spectators from other parts of Europe. 

This ethereal blue glow wasn’t the product of extraterrestrial activities, contradicting the claims of a few alien enthusiasts. The actual reason behind this atmospheric spectacle is rooted in rocket science. Under specific atmospheric conditions, the exhaust gases or excess fuel released by a rocket in the upper stratosphere can generate such a radiant halo. 

The confusion regarding the source of the halo persisted for a few minutes post its appearance, mainly due to the uncertainty surrounding the rocket that could have engendered the phenomenon. Some speculated it was SpaceX’s StarShip, a hypothesis swiftly ruled out as it had exploded hours earlier. 

As the night descended, the French Defense Ministry stepped in to clear the air. The mysterious blue halo’s origin was traced back to the testing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (sans any nuclear payload), launched from the French North Atlantic coast. Such tests are not uncommon for France, and previous rocket launches have produced similar halos in the past.
