Sharpless 2 200 often referred to as Sh2 200 and also recognized as PK 138+04.1 HDW 2 and LBN 674 is a planetary nebula situated in the constellation of Cassiopeia. Despite evaluations the precise distance of this nebula remains largely uncertain with estimates oscillating between approximately 1,900 to 3,000 light years.
Located on the edge of the Orion Arm, Sh2 200 is close to IC 1848 which is also known as the famous Soul Nebula. This planetary nebula has an appearance and has yet to be extensively studied.
The core of 200 features a diffuse circle, with low surface brightness intricately filled with several parallel straight line like formations. Enclosed by an emission ring the nebula offers a captivating spectacle.
Expanding outward there is another diffuse structure that takes shape. This structure exhibits a morphology and is noted to be about ten times dimmer compared to the inner region. Based on distance estimates it is estimated that this structure spans between 8.5 to 13 light years.
Given our understanding and data accessibility it remains unconfirmed whether the extended structure is an integral part of the planetary nebula or a result of ionized interstellar medium.
