Aurora Illuminates Arctic Henge

 Following news of intense solar flares, a seven-hour journey north was undertaken to capture contemporary monuments set against a sky filled with auroras. The peaks of the famed Arctic Henge in Raufarhöfn, northern Iceland, were already perfectly aligned with the stars, with some pointing directly north from one side and directly south from the other.

This photograph, taken just after sunset last month, faces due south. However, since the composite image spans a large portion of the sky, the North Star, Polaris, can be seen at the top of the frame. Well-known constellations such as the Great Bear (Ursa Major) on the left and the Hunter (Orion) on the lower right are also visible.

The mission was a success, as the sky erupted with vivid and unforgettable auroras, displaying an array of stunning colors like red, pink, yellow, green, and sometimes multiple hues simultaneously.
