Then came the summer of 2025. Europe ran into two serious heatwaves in quick succession. The first peaked between 17 and 22 June, hammering western and southern Europe. The second arrived at the turn of the month, with even fiercer temperatures from 30 June to 2 July across the same area. Together they helped make it the warmest June on record in western Europe.
